My CAREER

The career i want take up is PSYCHOLOGY. I have a strong passion for psychology and i have pretty much confirmed that i want to work in the psychology field. I have been inspired by a psychologist that i know and i want to major in helping patients with eating disorders and as well as major in providing therapy for inmates in prisons. I am also considering to take up being a public speaker to reach out to people with eating disorders and prisoners.

The minimum requirement for being a psychologist is a honours psychology degree. But to be a professional one, a Master's or Doctorate Degree is required. I mainly want to be in clinical and counselling psychology. The main subjects required are social science subjects. I am planning to go to NUS to get my master's or doctorate degree for psychology. Being a psychologist requires sensitive and questioning skills, ability to relate to and empathise with a range of people, excellent communication skills etc. I am not too sure about the salary of psychologists, but money doesn't matter. (wow so deep) But i do know that being in a clinical and counselling psychologist will allow me to reach out the prisoners and patients of eating disorders.

My Career

My desired career path is electrical engineering. It involves the use of electricity, electromagnetism and electronics, some of which we are learning in school right now. Electrical engineering is a subfield of engineering, and the reason why it is my desired career is because I have interest in it. Science is an interesting field of study and it is very practical as well as applicable in our society, so being an electrical engineer would also mean being able to come up with new ideas and innovations to serve the community better. Since it involves areas related to electricity, subjects such as Mathematics and Physics are essential in order to have the knowledge and study about electrical engineering. It involves technical skills, critical thinking, team-building and a good attitude. What I like about it is the hands-on part, as I like doing practical instead of just studying and there are many things to explore in the electrical field. The salary is roughly $50K, although it is usually higher, depending on your workplace.

My Career

1. Officer (government sector)
2. Gives me a sense of satisfaction, a soldier's pride to be able to protect one's own country
3. At least poly/ A level standard
4. For graduate, $3000-4000 depending on your rank

My career

Choice: Lawyer Reason: Firstly this a highpaid job. There are many grey areas. Especially when coming to cases involving legal immorality. Challenges are the main attractions to me. I feel this job will enable me to help more people, achieve higher standard of living and challenge myself. It requires a tremendous amount of self-discipline and rational thinking. Qualification: Degree in Law. Salary: The average salary for an Attorney / Lawyer is S$74,000 per year. (For Singapore only)

My Career

My choice of my future job is to be an accouuntant, auditor, or basically an office lady, That said, it is something related to the business sector of industries.
The reason why I chose to be working in an office is that I do not fancy working in the service sectors, nor working in the outdoors. However, one reason as to why I choose to specifically be an accountant or auditor is that I am very interested in the subject of Mathematics, and I really like studying it. Furthermore, it is one of the subjects that I am good in, thus affirming my choice to venture in the areas of being in the business sector. Given that accountancy and auditing involves the manipulation and usage of numbers, I believe that my interest is surely useful in that particular career. The second reason is that I am interested in the subject Economics as well, even though I may not necessarily be very good at it. Addiionally, almost everyone in my family is working as an accountant or auditor in some big firms in Singapore, thus my choice is also slightly influenced by all the choices of jobs made by my family. Therefore, this made me want to continue the trend and to also do well in the business sector.
There are many qualifications to being an accountant. Accountants have to be really good with numbers, have to be meticulous, logical and methodical. They even have to be good in IT skills and in softwares like Microsoft Excel, since offices are increasingly becoming paperless environments, and everything is increasingly reliant on technologies. They would also need good communication skills and to be able to understand the client’s business. Many companies also look for applicants that hold an accredited accountancy degree.
Such qualifications are closely linked to the job scope of accountants. Accountants are split into many different types and sectors, but they are generally required to prepare and examine financial records of a particular company or client's company and business. They ensure that financial records are accurate and that taxes are paid properly and on time. This is to assess financial operations and work to help ensure that organizations run efficiently. Some even recommends financial actions to their company by analyzing accounting options. An Accountant earns an average salary of SGD$46,252 per year.

My Career

One of the careers that I wish to pursue when I grow up is to be a mechanical engineer, preferably in a private sector. Mechanical engineers create and build mechanical devices that make the lives of others easier.
One very simple reason that I want to join mechanical engineering is because I like to build things. Since young, I have always liked helping my father build furniture that my parents purchase. I also enjoyed building little toy structures. When I was young, I wanted to be a construction worker, but that idea was quickly shot down after realising the long hours that I have to spend in the sun.
The most basic requirement to be a mechanical engineer is to obtain a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. I must also have a good math and physics foundation and be passionate in solving problems I face in real life.
Usually, engineers will spend their time in an office setting, but might occasionally need to go down to sites, depending on which type of mechanical engineering you wish to pursue, to take a look at the machines present. The minimum monthly wage would be around $2000 for a post graduate.

Cyber Wellness Talk

On thursday, we had a level talk on the topic of cyber wellness by Mr Poh. During the talk, Mr Poh mentioned that kids nowadays cant seem to live without their phones as kids tend to bring their phones everywhere they go.  Cyber addiction to phones has a great impact on people, especially students like us. Students tend to be less efficient when they have their phones with them and they woud be inclined to checking their phones whenever there is an notification. Mr Poh too talked about multi tasking (task switching). Many of us tend to task switch when we do our stuff, thinking that by doing so, we are able to complete more stuff in the limited amount of time. However, the fact was that students completed even lesser stuff than they would have completed in that period of time.

This talk is very relatable to our lives and it is very beneficial. What are some of your insights after listening to the talk?

Fixed Mindset VS Growth Mindset

On the CCE lesson on wednesday, we had a lesson reguarding fixed mindset and growth mindset. Many of us might have this question in our mind when we first started off this CCE lesson. " So what exactly is fixed mindset and growth mindset?"  Through this lesson, the class had a deeper understanding of what both these mindsets refer to and were even able to list some examples of each of these mindsets.

Basically, just to recap, having a fixed mindset means that you just believe that you aren't good at that something because you are who you are, while growth mindset means that you believe that anyone and everyone can be good at anything. When you do not do well in one thing, a person with growth mindset would encourage themselves by saying : I can do this! I just need to put in more effort! I will soon succeed!"

Do you find it benefical to you? Leave your comments below to share your ideas on the CCE lesson!

Cyber wellness

In the current society, more and more teenagers are vulnerable to scams online. In order to ensure our safety, everyone has to play his own part in ensuring a safe online community.

-How can you protect yourself when coming across unaccredited sites and/or approached by unknown online contacts?

-How can you make a difference for others and become an ambassador for building a safe and harmonious online environment?

By the way, today is 人日, so happy birthday everyone! :)

Inside the classroom that dares to break traditional teaching

Some food for thoughts for all of you.

An article that I find interesting..

First Class Dinner

"Guys, the Mcdonald's delivery is here, hurry up! We might not be able to carry that much by ourselves." A few of us remarked as the motorcycles came riding in with our food. We thought there were very much to be carried and we couldn't cope by ourselves, so we asked for help from the guys. Unexpectedly, when the guys arrived at the main gate, there came us carrying all the food, with a few holding onto only one or two bags of food. We overestimated the amount of food, and laughed embarrassingly to pass it off.

Feb 6 marks the day of our FIRST class dinner. It could be compared to a feast, which there were lots of burgers, drinks, fries...And most importantly... pizzas, garlic breads and bread sticks treated by our dear form teachers: Mr Teo and Ms tan! 3 cheers for them. It was a great dinner filled with chatters and laughters, with us being the only one in the hostel canteen (Which makes us that special). We definitely created a lot more memories and forged closer bonds with our classmates. Cheers for more to come!

Community

What we did during CCE lesson
We did two activities in total. The first one was the "I had never...." game. At the beginning, everyone had 10 fingers pointing outwards, indicating that everyone had 10 "lives". The objective of the game is to let everyone except yourself bend their fingers inwards, and the only way to do so is to give a statement such that the other players have done what you never did before in the form of "I have never...". For the second activity, from the first speaker onward, each person held a part of a ball of string and said 3 areas in which they already/wish to contribute in before passing the string to the next person until the last person had finished. At the end of the activity, the ball of string formed a web within the circle of students and teachers, which resembles the connection within a community.

How do the activities link to a community in real life?
For the first activity, until the end of one round, most of the players have all their fingers bent inwards. In this game, each player represents a member of the community. When all the players have their fingers bent inwards, this shows that even though everyone come from a different background and have different personalities, we still have similarities and we can come together as a community to work towards a common goal. During the second activity, there were problems faced when passing the ball of string around (eg. cannot reach, string not long enough), but in the end, we solved the problems and ended up succeeding in forming the complete web. This shows that when each and every member of the community contribute their part while working together and cooperating with each other well, we can achieve great things as a community.

Do comment your thoughts and reflections here. Have a nice day! :D

Marriage

What did we do yesterday during CCE lesson
We had an activity which requires us to form pairs. Some of the pairs have to be in opposite genders while some consisted of those of the same gender. Each pair was given 2 strings to tie each of their hands and legs together and were required to walk a certain distance. The mission given was to fold a paper plane using either the tied hands or the untied hands. Then the pairs were required to walk back to the original position. The last four pairs have to do a forfeit. 2 of the guys in the last four pairs have to be blind folded while catching the other 2 guys who were not blind folded under the guidance of their girl partners. In the end, those being blind folded successfully caught those not being blind folded. At the end of the game, we had a sharing session to allow us to think about the meaning behind the game we played.

What is Marriage?
Marriage requires both parties to be willing to commit and to trust each other. Marriage requires love, patience and forgiveness. It is a lifelong thing where one can find comfort whenever they are feeling low. Lifelong partners have to trust each other and be true to them. Both the husband and the wife are willing to share their joy, sadness and secrets with each other without feeling awkward or being exposed. During marriage, it is unavoidable to have conflicts. However, one have to accept their mistake and move on. When something goes wrong, both parties do not put the blame on each other. They will not focus on who's right and who's wrong. Instead, both of them will help to solve the problem and forgive one another. They will put in all their effort to treasure and appreciate the time spent with each other so that their love will last long.  Partners would grow old together and one should not abandon their partners when they grow old. Besides, they should also overcome difficulties together. One has to think clearly whether the other party is the right person whom they are willing to share their life with forever, to be able to understand what they are going through and put themselves into their pain. From the games, we had a short experience of what 'marriage' would be. We had to trust our partner and listen to them when it is necessary to. We also had to be cooperating with each other in order to achieve our common goal.

First chapter

Our first really fruitful CCE lesson with Mr Teo!

Hi all,
this post marks the official start of our class blog, and this will be another platform for us to share our thoughts and pictures.

I believe it is the first time for many of us here to be treated to fresh fruits during CCE lesson. The game and the rewards really make the lesson much more interesting. At the same time, we are leading a healthy lifestyle too! Personally I really hope the future CCE lessons will be as entertaining too. A big thank you to Mr Teo for making all these possible :)

Cheers!
